Donald Trump shared a video on social media showing a US air strike in Yemen mowing down dozens of people. Trump embellishes this massacre with a supposedly funny comment: "These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis!"
The gathering in a circle shown in the video is a traditional Yemeni formation seen at civil events and celebrations: there''s no indication that these unarmed people had anything to do with the ''Houthis'', but rather that they were just civilians gathered for some celebration.
What is most striking is not so much the ignominy of Trump joking about what is a pure act of terrorism, but the complete indifference with which this massacre has been greeted: here, no Western official to declare himself horrified, to denounce the barbarity and cowardice of the attack, or the disregard for human life it shows...
The Trump administration has already carried out dozens of bombings on civilian targets in Yemen; on the night of April 17-18, the bombardment of the oil port of Ras Issa on the Red Sea killed at least 74 people and wounded hundreds more, while destroying essential civilian infrastructure.
